Effect of psychological counseling and nursing intervention on mental health and quality of life in elderly patients with depression induced by senile diseases

Abstract：Objective:To investigate the effect of psychological counseling and nursing intervention on mental health and quality of life in elderly patients with depression induced by senile diseases. Methods:60 patients with depression induced by senile diseases were ran-domly divided into the study group and the control group (30 cases in each group). The routine psychological nursing intervention was giv-en to the patients in the control group;the psychological counseling combined with psychological nursing intervention was adopted in the study group. The patients in the two groups were respectively assessed by HAMD,HAMA and GQOL-74 before the treatment and at the end of the 4th weeK after the treatment and the results of the assessment were compared between the two groups. Results:There were statisti-cally significant differences in the comparison of the total scores of HAMD and HAMA and the scores of GQOL-74 between the two groups (P<0. 01,P<0. 05). Conclusion:Application of psychological counseling and nursing intervention can effectively improve the quality of life and promote the recovery of mental health of the patients in the treatment of depression induced by senile diseases.
