Abstract:Objective:To conduct a survey on the sleep quality of caregivers for patients with stroke in order to provide the basis for the improvement of the physical and mental status of the caregivers.Methods:100 caregivers for stroke patients(from June 2013 to February 2014)in a certain hospital of Shaanxi province were taken as the observation group and 70 family members taking care of ordinary patients in the department of internal medicine were taken as the control group. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)was used to assess the sleep quality of the caregivers in the two groups. Results:The total occurrence rate of sleep disorders of the caregivers was 42.7%(PSQI=8)in the two groups;the incidence of sleep disorders of the caregivers was 27.3% in the observation group and 53.1% in the control group(P<0.01);the total scores of PSQI were 9.37 ±3.97 points in the observation group and 4.96 ±2.46 points in the control group (P<0.01);the scores of the other 6 items of PSQI except the usage of hypnotic drugs were higher in the observation group than the con-trol group(P<0.05).Conclusion:The sleep quality of the caregivers for stroke patients is poorer than that of the general population and i-dentification of the presence of sleep disorders of the caregivers should be paid attention to in clinical practice.
