Effect of early enteral nutrition on lCU patients with mechanical ventilation
Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effect of early enteral nutrition( EEN)on ICU patients with mechanical ventilation. Methods:53 patients who were treated with mechanical ventilation in ICU were randomly divided into the EEN group(n=28)and non EEN group (n=25). The patients in the EEN group were given enteral nutrition(EN)by nasogastric feeding method before mechanical ventilation or within 48 hours during mechanical ventilation and the patients in the non EEN group were given parenteral nutrition within 48 hours during mechanical ventilation and given EN by nasogastric feeding method after mechanical ventilation for 48 hours according to the patient's con-dition. The indexes of the patients were observed and compared between the two groups. Results:There were statistically significant differ-ences in the comparison of the time of mechanical ventilation, nutritional expenses of 28 days, the incidence of ventilator-associated pneu-monia(VAP)and gastrointestinal complications between the two groups(P﹤0. 05). Conclusion:EEN used for ICU patients with mechani-cal ventilation can shorten the time of mechanical ventilation and reduce the cost of treatment and the incidence of complications.
