The patients in both groups were given conventional health education and the extra hope theory was adopted in the experimental group. The change of pa-tientˊs depressive mood and hope index was compared between the two groups. Results:There were statistically significant differences in the comparison of the scores of Hamilton Depression Scale and Herth hope index between the two groups before and after the intervention( P<0. 05);the score of Hamilton Depression Scale was significantly lower in the experimental group than the control group after the interven-tion(P<0. 05);Herth hope index scores were significantly increased in the experimental group compared with those in the control group after the intervention(P<0. 05). Conclusion:Application of hope theory to health education for patients with depression can improve the hope index of patients, reduce the depressive mood and enhance the effect of health education.
