lnvestigation of medical staffsˊperception about fatigue symptom of children with ALL during chemotherapy
Abstract:Objective:To investigate the medical staffsˊperception about fatigue symptom of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia ( ALL)during chemotherapy. Methods:61 medical staffs( including doctors and nurses)in pediatric hematology departments of 4 hospitals at gradeⅢ-A level in Guangzhou city were surveyed by using the self-made questionnaire. Results:The incidence of fatigue symptom of children with ALL during chemotherapy was in the fifth of all symptoms. 71. 6% of medical staffs thought the frequency of the childrenˊs fa-tigue"often" or "always" and 63. 9% of them thought it "serious";37% and 45. 7% of them respectively thought it“most serious”in the first and third stage of chemotherapy. The main reasons to cause fatigue symptom of the children during chemotherapy were side effects of drugs(60. 7%)and malnutrition resulting from vomiting(26. 2%). No specialized tools were used to measure the childrenˊs fatigue symptom and 55. 9% of medical staffs thought it necessary. Conclusion:The medical staffs think that the fatigue symptom is common and the degree is serious in children with ALL during chemotherapy,so the specific scale to measure fatigue symptom is greatly needed in clini-cal practice.
