Abstract：Objective:To investigate and compare the psychological state with the nurses on the payroll of manning quotas of Grade ⅢHospitals in Xiˊan. Methods:88 nurses on the payroll of manning quotas were selected as the control group and other 201 contract nurses employed in different period were taken as the study group. The mental health level of all nurses in both groups was evaluated by using symptom checklist 90(SCL-90)and the psychological state of the nurses was compared between the two groups. Results:The scores of the factors in SCL-90 such as obsession,interpersonal relationship,depression and anXiety,hostility and paranoid significantly increased in the study group compared with the national norm and control group(P<0. 05);the scores of the factors like depression,anXiety,hostili-ty and paranoid were higher in one-year contract nurses than those in 3-year contract nurses(P<0. 05). Conclusion:The instability of jobs and unfair payment cause the low level of mental health levels of contract nurses,thus measures should be taken to effectively improve their psychological health level.
