Effect of community nursing intervention on the quality of life of Empty Nesters

Abstract:Objective:To study the effect of community nursing intervention on the quality of life of Empty Nesters. Methods:100 Empty Nesters were randomly selected and community nursing intervention program were developed according to the investigated status of quality of life of the Empty Nesters and its influencing factors. The intervention measures included the establishment of personal health records, regular health examination,door-to-door service,health knowledge education,home visits,assistance of referral and accidental event res-cue service etc. . The quality of life of the Empty Nesters was compared before and after the intervention by using ADL scale and SF-36. Results:After the intervention for 12 months,96 Empty Nesters were followed up and 4 Empty Nesters were failed to be followed up. The ADL evaluation showed that the scores were 16. 21 ± 4. 30 points before the intervention and 14. 82 ± 3. 60 points after the intervention. The scores of general state of health,physiological function,bodily pain,role physical,energy,social function,emotional function and mental health of the Empty Nesters were higher after the intervention than those before the intervention(P﹤0. 05). Conclusion:The community nursing interventions including the intervention of psychology,behavior,movement,medication and diet can effectively improve the quality of life of Empty Nesters.
