Abstract:Objective:Toexploretherelationshipbetweentheintervalofchangingdressingofindwellingintravenouscatheterandphlebi-tis. Methods:The patients were grouped according to the serial number of beds. The beds of No. 1 to 34 were taken as the observation group and the beds of No. 35 to 66 were taken as the control group. In the observation group, dressing of indwelling intravenous catheter was not changed and the catheter was removed 6 days later;the dressing was changed once every 3 days and the catheter was removed 6 days later in the control group. The catheter was immediately removed in case phlebitis happened in the two groups;the cause of phlebitis and its grade were recorded. Results:There were statistically significant differences in the comparison of extubation at discharge, expected extubation and patients’requirement between the two groups(P﹤0. 05,P﹤0. 01). Conclusion:Extubation without changing dressing after venous intubation for 6 days has no significant difference compared with changing dressing during indwelling intravenous catheter, moreover it can relieve the e-conomic burden of patients and reduce the risk of iatrogenic infection, the nursing workload and the work pressure of the nurses.
