AppIication of Orem seIf-care modeI to seIf-management of chiIdren patients with asthma

Abstract：Objective:ToinvestigatetheeffectofOremself-caremodelintheself-managementofchildrenpatientswithasthma. Methods:110 children patients with mild and moderate asthma were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group(55 cases in each group). The children patients in both groups were given treatment by GINA,based on which the children patients in the ob-servation group were given intervention and managed by Orem self-care model. The children patients in the control group only received routine health education on asthma. The questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the daily self-care behaviors,asthma control, pulmonary function and quality of life of the children patients in the two groups. Results:The scores of self-care behavior were significant-ly increased in the observation group compared with those in the control group after one year(P﹤0. 01);the total effective rate in asthma control was higher in the observation group than the control group(P﹤0. 05);the improvement of lung function was significantly better in the observation group than the control group(P﹤0. 01);the scores of quality of life were significantly higher than those of the patients when they were enrolled into study in the two groups(P﹤0. 05);the scores of quality of life of the children were significantly higher in the observation group than the control group(P﹤0. 01). Conclusion:Application of Orem self-care model can significantly improve the self-management ability of the children patients,the level of asthma control and their quality of life.
