Effect of comprehensive nursing care on the sickness impact degree and self - concept of patients with permanent colostomy in the resection of rectal cancer

Abstract:Objective:To explore the effect of comprehensive nursing care on the sickness impact degree and self - concept of patients with permanent colostomy in the resection of rectal cancer. Methods:102 rectal cancer patients with postoperative colostomy were tested by using sickness impact profile and Tennessee self - concept scale,and comprehensive nursing intervention was formulated and carried out ai-ming at the existed health problems. The test was done again in the 6th month after surgery by using the same methods. The change of sick-ness impact degree and self - concept of the patients was compared before and after the comprehensive nursing intervention. Results:The score of each dimension of the sickness impact degree and self - concept of the patients was significantly lower after the intervention than that before the intervention(P ﹤ 0. 01). Conclusion:The comprehensive nursing intervention on rectal cancer patients with postoperative colostomy can effectively enhance their self efficacy and self - concept so as to minimize the sickness impact.
