Application of Orem self-care theory to nursing care of patients with stroke in different periods

Abstract：Objective:To investigate the application effect of Orem self -care theory in nursing care of patients with stroke in different periods.Methods:60 acute stroke patients were randomly divided into the experimental group (n=32) and the control group (n=28). The routine nursing care was given to the patients in the control group;the Orem self-care theory was adopted to conduct nursing interven-tion in the experimental group .The scores of activity of daily living ( ADL) of the patients were respectively assessed when the patients were selected ,in one month ,3 and 6 months after the patients were ill and the intervention effect was evaluated by using visual analogue scale (VAS) in the two groups.Results:Compared with those before treatment ,the scores of ADL of the patients increased in the two groups in one month,3 and 6 months after the patients were ill (P<0.01);the scores of ADL increased in one month ,3 and 6 months af-ter the patients were ill in the experimental group ,compared with the control group (P<0.05);the difference in the comparison of patient satisfaction was statistically significant between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion:The Orem self-care theory can improve ADL,sat-isfaction and treatment outcomes of the patients .
