Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effect of Orem self -care theory applied to self monitoring of blood glucose in diabetic patients . Methods:100 diabetic patients were randomly divided into the routine nursing group and Orem self -care group (50 cases in each group). The patients in the routine nursing group were given routine nursing care;the supportive education system of Orem self -care theory was a-dopted to give patients nursing instruction in the Orem self -care group based on the routine one .The differences of fasting blood glucose , 2 hr postprandial blood glucose ,glycated hemoglobin ,glucose variability and compliance rate ,blood glucose monitoring frequency and the incidence of hypoglycemia were observed in the two groups respectively on admission ,in 3 and 6 months after discharge .Results:Compared with routine nursing group ,fasting blood glucose ,2 hr postprandial blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin were under control obviously and the compliance rate of glycated hemoglobin increased significantly , while the glucose variability was significantly reduced , blood glucose monitoring frequency increased and the incidence of hypoglycemia was significantly lower in the Orem self -care group ( P<0.05,P<0.01).Conclusion:Application of Orem self-care theory can effectively improve the self -care ability and compliance behavior of diabetic patients.
