Effect of the stages of change model on maternal feeding behavior and the amount of lactation

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effect of the stages of change model on maternal feeding behavior and the amount of lactation . Methods:100 primiparas who met the inclusion criteria were divided into the control group and the intervention group ( 50 primiparas in each group ) according to the allocation principles of minimization of unbalanced index .The patients in the control group received conven-tional health education;the stage intervention was adopted in the intervention group in the light of the stages of change model .The feeding behavior of primiparas and the amount of lactation were compared between the two groups respectively on the 42nd day and in 4 months af-ter childbirth.Results:The rate of breast feeding and the amount of lactation was significantly higher and more in the intervention group than the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion:Implementation of stage intervention according to the stages of change model can effectively improve the rate of breast feeding and promote the increase of amount of lactation .
