Abstract:This study analyzed panel data from 30 provincial-level administrative regions in China from 2011 to 2023.It employed the entropy weight method to construct a digital economy evaluation index system and utilized multiple empirical models for testing. The results revealed that the development of the digital economy significantly enhanced rural residents'consumption. The threshold effect analysis showed a significant nonlinear relationship, characterized by a single threshold effect.Mechanism analysis indicated that the digital economy promotes rural residents'consumption through two channels:increasing rural residents'income and fostering e-commerce development.Heterogeneity analysis demonstrated that the promotional effect of the digital economy on consumption was more pronounced in the central and western regions. These empirical findings remained robust after accounting for robustness and endogeneity tests. Therefore,to stimulate rural consumption,it is essential to strengthen digital infrastructure, raise rural residents'income levels, improve the logistics system, and promote e-commerce development, while also addressing regional disparities with a focus on less developed areas.
