Abstract:Global climate change, geopolitical conflicts, and other factors have exacerbated the uncertainty of the food supply chain. In the context of aging, strengthening the resilience of domestic supply chains has become the key to resist external shocks.Based on the panel data of 31 provincial regions in China from 2014 to 2023,this paper empirically examines the effect path and technical synergy mechanism of aging on the resilience of the food supply chain by constructing a model that includes the level of agricultural mechanization as the mediating variable and agricultural technology innovation as the moderating variable. The results show that:(1)The development level of food supply chain resilience in China has shown an upward trend, with the central region outperforming other regions.(2)The aging of the rural population significant positively impacts the resilience of the food supply chain resilience, and its impact is in the central>eastern>western>northeast regions. The aging of the rural population drives the widespread adoption of agricultural mechanization, significantly enhancing the resilience of the food supply chain, thus creating a positive impact.(3)The level of agricultural technology innovation has a positive moderating effect on the level of agricultural mechanization in the resilience of the food supply chain, demonstrating a"1+1>2"multiplier effect. The conclusions of this study provide a theoretical basis for re-examining the path of agricultural transformation in an aging society and provide policy implications for enhancing food security resilience through the two-wheel driven strategy of"mechanization instead of labor and technological innovation empowering mechanization".
