Research on the Development and Evolution of Lingnan Architecture School in the New Century from the Perspective of Sociology of knowledge

Abstract：From the perspective of the sociology of knowledge,this research takes the Lingnan Architecture School as its research object and explores the development of the school in the interaction between thought and society since 2000.The research aims to analyze how the Lingnan Architecture School has gradually constructed its autonomous knowledge system in social,historical,and cultural contexts,and to determine the internal mechanism of its knowledge production. Based on the theoretical framework of the sociology of knowledge,this research focuses on analyzing the Lingnan Architecture School's knowledge production process,referred to as"production-re-contextualization-reproduction",and revealing the value-loading,social construction,and inter-subjectivity of the school's knowledge in different fields.The research shows that the Lingnan Architecture School's knowledge production in the present century has the following key features:(1)Production field-the production of knowledge must include certain value orientations,group norms,and ethical appeals,and the theory and practice of the Lingnan Architecture School reflects profoundly modern and regional knowledge choices and values.(2)Re-contextualization field-the construction of knowledge is closely related to social factors which shape the Lingnan Architecture School's thoughts and influence its development.The development of the school will act as a knowledge resource for the development of society,actively promote social development,and trigger a paradigm shift.(3)Reproduction field-the transfer of knowledge is a process of meaning construction and interaction between educators and the educated.Through dialogue with"past thoughts",the Lingnan Architecture School realizes innovation,breaks through regional limitations,expands its influence,completes the transformation from a regional school to an ideological school,and adapts to the needs of the times to reshape knowledge and thoughts. The research also identified that the Lingnan Architecture School's knowledge production in the current century is centered and based on the"production field,"and is further developed in the"re-contextualization field"and the"reproduction field".Through the interaction with thought and society,the knowledge system has formed three typical paradigms:"society to thought","thought to society",and"thought to thought".Among them,"society to thought"includes the evolution of the needs of the times and social conditions,the guidance of national policies,system motivation,and results in motivation;"thought to society"includes the production of new space,the construction of academic discourse systems,industry standards and guidelines,and exemplary power and demonstration effect;and"thought to thought"includes a consistent ideological system,stable intergenerational inheritance,and innovative organization models within the school.These paradigms constitute the core mechanism of knowledge production at the Lingnan Architecture School and drive its innovation and development.Through the purposeful,regular,and subjective development of knowledge production,the school clarifies the value orientation of cultural inheritance and social needs,adheres to the dynamic updating of the knowledge system in keeping with the times,and promotes the inheritance and innovation of Lingnan architectural knowledge through multiple subjects with common values,thus exploring a practical path for the development of China's autonomous architectural culture. This research outlines the development path of the Lingnan Architecture School in the new century by analyzing the way it constructs its knowledge system.The research provides an in-depth exploration of the interaction between the development of the school and its social context and reveals the production mechanism of the school's knowledge in different fields,as well as its dynamic update process.The research is of great significance in understanding the development of China's autonomous architectural culture and the promotion of the sustainable development of architectural research,which reflects a practical path of interaction between knowledge and society in the context of Chinese modernization.
