Abstract:Performance-based buildings responding to the environment are establishing a sustainable architectural future. The increase in urban spatial density has brought about an ever-increasing deterioration of the outdoor wind and heat environment. To deal with these problems, it has been suggested that architects gain understanding of the complex, invisible natural phenomenon that is wind. This paper introduces the latest achievements in building morphology generation based on the exploration of customized physical wind tunnels. Qualitative and quantitative experiments on wind environment visualization were conducted using a mini physical wind tunnel and a laboratory-level wind tunnel suitable for the optimization of the initial design stage; these were used as the basis for evaluating the environmental performance of buildings. Additionally, the dynamic model device was integrated with signal transmission control performed using the Arduino platform and programming language, and "warped" architectural forms were selected for wind environmental performance-based morphology generation experiments. A set of systematic methods for building morphology generation is presented, which is suitable for the early stage of architectural design and guided by wind environment performance.
