An Exploration of Health-oriented Design Guideline: Based on the Experience of NYC and LA

Abstract:That the impact of urban planning on health from passively solving the health problems to taking the initiative to intervene in the urban environment, which refers to from simple sunshine ventilation to elaborate space design, is committed to affecting the life style and physical acticity of the public. Based on the design guidelines of New York City and Los Angeles to promote healthy space, this paper analyzes their setting framework, specific spatial requirements and recommendations, with a focus on health-oriented design. It aims at discussing how health-related planning elements and indicators can be incorporated into guidelines of planning and design in China.
