Research on Architectural Space Base on Space Syntax and Grasshopper:A Case Study of Block-type Commercial Building

Abstract：The spatial configuration determines the usage of space. But the configurative architectural design mostly depends on subjective experience and judgment of architects or clients , which fall into empiricism and subjectivism in the commercial building design, for the commercial buildings with large scale and complex space system. Space syntax makes it possible to predict, qualify and quantify aspects of human behavior of different design proposals . However, there is gap between space syntax as an analytic theory of architecture and architectural design practice. This paper makes an attempt by combining space syntax with scripting via Depthmap and Grasshopper to analysis a typical block-type commercial space. The research successfully integrates real-time space syntax analysis, axial analysis and visual graph analysis can cooperate with each other to meet the design feedback requirements in different process.
