Behavior Analysis of Independent Living Elders in Winter and Space Optimization in Senior Living Facilities in Shenyang

Abstract:By using fixed point photography techniques and a questionnaire survey of 24-hour activities,this article conducted a site investigation of indoor activities of the independent living elders in a nursing home in Shenyang on January 25 and 26th, 2015. This article categorized the activity types of the elders and their related space types, analyzed their activity schedules, revealed the relationship between winter activity patterns and their related spaces, and summarized the changing pattern of the using frequency of these spaces. Based on the conclusions above, this article also made suggestions to improve the indoor space design for senior living facilities.
