Abstract:Urban fast rail transit in China has reached a critical stage of mass construction. This article focuses on how to take this opportunity to guide a city towards sustainable development. The Compact City theory promotes a high-density and diverse city, which is an urban development mode based on highly efficient land use.This article analyzes and demonstrates the crucial value of rail transit mixed-use development in a compact urban development. Based on case studies in Japan and Hong Kong, this article also summarizes the roadmap towards the rail transit mixed-use development in compact cities, hoping to provide useful references to the development and design of rail transit mixed-use development in China.
