Abstract:This article analyzes the spatial distribution and land area index of the campus planning of vocational colleges in Japan and draws the following conclusions: the layout of the vocational colleges adapts to the characteristics of the regional industrial development, although it does not show there is a strong relationship between the college layout and the industrial zones. Taking Tokyo and Nagoya as examples, this article shows that vocational colleges tend to concentrate in urban centers where transportation hubs locate, instead of in industrial zones. Japanese vocational college planning standard does not require a fixed floor area ratio (FAR), and it is also flexible with the land use of sports facilities, which is different from China. The integration level of the campus and the city, the development intensity of urban land, and the land use of sports facilities give us inspirations of campus planning in China.
