Comparison Between the Seven Principles of Modern Architecture and the Creative Spirit of Chinese Traditional Landscape Architecture

Abstract:Modern architecture is a profound ideological liberation movement in the architecture history. The seven principles proposed by Bruno Zevi, which opposed the classical architecture, are highly generalization of modern architecture characteristics. By means of comparison, this paper concludes that Chinese traditional landscape architecture which is not restricted by the traditional official building, is open-minded , in the form of free and almost embodies all the seven principles and possesses the modern core over time. Chronologically determining, Chinese traditional landscape architecture was a template for western modern architecture,which possesses the modern core of Chinese traditional landscape architecture. Once abandoning those superficial symbols such as its concrete materials, color, form and so on, the modern core of Chinese traditional landscape architecture space will be the national essence which worth of inheriting.
