Comparative Analysis of Residential Forms of Traditional Dwellings and Surrounding Dwellings in Alxa

Abstract：Alxa is a multiple ethnic frontier region where local residents are mainly Mongolian. The traditional residential form of Alxa has already developed into fixed houses from traditional Mongolian yurt in the long-range evolution process. Dwel ings at the surrounding area have an indelible impact on the evolution of traditional dwel ings in Alxa. It can be clearly seen that traditional dwel ings at Alxa has absorbed and integrated the elements of residential form from surrounding area at the way of layout concept, courtyard space, architectural form, detailed practices and building materials. By a comparative analysis of residential form of Alxa between traditional dwel ings and surrounding residence, the inclusiveness has been displayed in the evolution process. At the same time, it can also be found that the improvement of traditional dwel ings at Alxa has carried out, combining with local culture, customs and living environment.
