Research at Home and Abroad on Renewing Developments in Port Areas:the Inspiration for "One River and Three Belts" Construction in Guangzhou

Abstract:Guangzhou has numerous port and wharf shorelines along the Pearl River. Recently, Guangzhou municipal government puts forward the strategy of "one river and three belts", which makes the port area as an important platform for city development. This study summarizes the development history, the evolution direction and the regeneration experience of the ports. Secondly, it puts forward four kinds of successful regeneration modes which including the port-city interaction, mixed use, transformation and upgrading. Thirdly, it takes the port areas of Hamburg, London Docklands, Shanghai (west bank of Xuhui) and Yokohama as examples, analyzing the corresponding regeneration model. Finally, this paper discusses the revelation of the regeneration mode at home and abroad,and proposes the planning advices for the regeneration of for the "one river and three belts" construction in Guangzhou.
