A Comparative Study on Architectural Culture of Qiaopi Hall in Minnan and Chaoshan Area

Abstract:Qiaopi are remittance receipts in the form of family letters from overseas Chinese to their families in China. Qiao means "emigrants" and pi means "letters" .And laterly on Qiaopi became the financial agency between oversee and the mainland at that time and buildings were built up particularly for receiving, transferring and posting of Qiaopi, namely Qiaopi Hal, which is a very special building type of architectural culture in modern Minnan and Chaoshan area. The complex relationship between architecture and the development of social and economic in the area has been reflected in the architecture form of Qiaopi Hal. Common features are observable in different Qiaopi Hal such as diversity, dependency and hierarchy, but the difference on geographical and industrial characteristics in Minnan and Chaoshan area is clear also.
