Cultural Landscape as a Strategy for the Conservation of Industrial Heritage:A Case Study of Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape

Abstract:As the number of industrial heritage sites nominated on the World Heritage Site List has increased stably, the conservation of industrial heritage becomes increasingly concerned by the public. From those industrial related World Heritage sites, we can find the tendency of increasing number, serial nomination and broad area. This trend shows the similar concept of Cultural Landscape in the World Heritage sites could be applied on the conservation of industrial heritage. This paper used a Cultural Landscape of World Heritage site, Cornwal and West Devon Mining Landscape, as a case study in order to il ustrate how the concept of Cultural Landscape could be applied on the conservation of industrial heritage. By using data analysis, field work and interviews about this site, the conclusion demonstrates that the Concepts of Cultural landscape can play an important role for the conservation of industrial heritage.
