Fire Control Design of Commercial Complex Building in Pazhou

Abstract：Usually commercial complex buildings locate at densely populated areas in the city. The fire control design is more difficult with such complicated pedestrian flow system. ln this paper, commercial complex project at Pazhou area in Guangzhou city has been used as a case study to develop the design principles. The key of the fire control design of the complex is the podium with multiple functions such as shopping malls, retail, catering, theater and etc. The most difficult parts are fire zoning, the appropriate staircase width of theater evacuation, and the fire control of connecting passageway of adjacent buildings. The paper discussed several issues including the influence of the fire control on the layout, the evacuation distance and the evacuation width, and the coordination between the fire control and the functional flows.
