Systematic Analysis of the Existence of Tibetan Diao House

Abstract：Diao House is the most representative Tibetan traditional residential building form in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Based on the extensive field survey and literature review,we had analyzed the connotation of Diao House from three aspects,such as the historical appellation, the wall materials, and the structural types. We had discussed the basic difference among Diao House and other functional buildings,such as castle buildings, religious buildings and towers etc. Morphological characteristics analysis and the study on vertical functional layout and decoration patterns had been exploited. Results showed that al buildings were the transformation of Diao House at different time. Diao House is the most distinctive architectural form of the Tibetan traditional building system,and has a systematic presence in essence.
