Study on Dwellings Forms of Modern Hankou under Society Transformation：The Example of Variation of Block Texture and City lnterface

Abstract：The block (space) texture of urban dwellings has often got some kind of reflection through its spatial interface. As the social patterns are under transformation, an important factor which affects the block texture and the interface form of dwelling, is the implicit agent of the emerg of the block spatial texture, the interface formation as wel as the place recognition. This study made an analysis of how the specific stage of social development influenced the spatial texture mode and the interface of the dweling blocks, based on a wide survey on physical form of dwelings in Hankou in 1890~1930s , combined with document studies and case analysis of relevant factors such as municipal construction, management and the development mode of dweling blocks. The study shield lights on planning and construction of urban dweling, revival and renewal of historical blocks, as wel as the exploration of creative thinking on human settlement such as the mutual adaptability between regional social patterns and dweling form.
