Abstract：abstract Based on investigation and analysis of rural areas with dense water networks, this thesis sorts out the major types and characteristics of rural spatial structures and the development opportunities and chal enges. It brings in the concept of structural control, puts forward design paths which suits the transformation and optimization of rural spatial structures. These include the model of compact development based on uniform planning, the combination of production and residence based on concentrated and spontaneous alternation, the development model of rural tourism, and the model of progressive renewal based on low-degree intervention.
