Abstract:abstract The making of public space, with high degree of agglomeration of urban components in the process of rapid urbanization, is confronted with the dual issues of being compact and being ecological. The theory and methodology of landscape urbanism opens a new vision toward the making of public space in the high-density environment. Starting with the introduction of its theoretical stance, the article discusses the potential of landscape urbanism from the perspective of space structuring, integration and vitalization. Further with the case study on worldwide practical or research projects, three primary strategies in the practice of landscape urbanism, such as structuring, folding and staging, are analyzed, providing references for public space making in high-density environment.
