Methods for Urban Design Based on Canals Network

Abstract：abstract Under the background of new-type urbanization, urban form and environment feature are the special carrier of social and economic development, which have a great potential to be refined and improved. This article analyzes the interaction of hydraulic civilization and urban development, as wel as the value of the canals to explore. Teasing out and reconstructing the canal system, advancing the special quality of canal form, these methods could promote the growth of the multiple value for economic, social and ecology. Projects in the city new development and the old town renewal, should make ful use of the elements of water. Methods such as recover history canals, create new canals, optimize the waterway system, can generate a integrity, continuity city visual imagery and waterways system function structure. In order to combine the waterways with urban form, we need to summarize methods for urban design, and improve the urban design paradigm, especially composite urban design, hydraulic engineering and landscape system as a whole.
