Abstract：In School of Architecture of South China University of Technology, the teaching focuses more on technology, practice and regional specialties. Instead of general knowledge on architecture, the teaching of building construction design has transformed to focus on design principles and design methods. Based on the regional characteristics, the application-oriented teaching tried to make the building construction design cohesive with the reality of design capacity development and the needs of students. The methods such as research Learning and Shared Teaching improved the understanding on building construction principles of students and strengthened the mastering of construction design methods, which made the course become a terminal to integrate the relevant courses. The essence of design has been achieved.
