100 Years of Two Villages:Study of Modernization of Rural Settlements in Chaoshan Area

Abstract：Rural settlements in Chaoshan area have distinct regional characteristics, one of which is the coexistence of different construction fragments in different time. Based on the diachronic analysis of the development of settlement pattern at vilage-level, the paper explored the counter-balance between the multiple factors that caused or resisted the changes in settlement pattern during the process of modernization. With the discussion of the problems indwel in the development, the paper tried to put forward some strategic suggestions for the future development of the rural settlements.
