The Influence of Seaways on Modern Architecture of Chinese Settlement in Incheon

Abstract：This study is about the modern architecture of Chinese settlement in Incheon. In order to interpret the modern architectures built in Chinese settlement from a different angle, this study concentrates on the modern seaways created between China and Incheon. This wil help us understand the background of the architectures, architectural connection with the China, residents, and the influence of Chinese architecture on Korean modern architecture. This study is composed of four parts. First, we examine the modern seaways created between China and Incheon. In the second part, we examine the city planning of Chinese settlement, and also its development. In the third part, we wil analyze the architectures built in Chinese settlement by their backgrounds, characteristics, and influences of the seaways. At last, we examine how modern architectural culture of Chinese settlement influenced modern architecture of Korea. by looking through Asian seaways and the architectural culture exchanged by these lines, this study can provide a new point of view on the modernization of Asia.
