Comparative Study on Traditional Settlement Patterns of Guang-fu Area and Chao-shan Area

Abstract: Guang-fu clan and one branch of Min-hai clan had respectively settled in Pearl River Delta and Han-jiang River Delta, which are both in good farming conditions in Guang-dong Province and the core areas of architectural culture where the Guang-fu settlement and Chao-shan settlement developed. Despite the close geography, these two settlements had their own patterns distinctive from each other. The effects on the generation and development of settlement pattern come from the external environment system consisted of multiple factors. This paper lays out the differences along with discussions about key factors, and aims at the exploration of the interaction mechanism between external environment system and the settlement pattern.
