The Protection System against the Flood Disasters of Ancient Shangqiu during Ming and Qing Dynasties

Abstract：This paper studies the protection system against the flood disasters of ancient Shangqiu during Ming and Qing dynasties with the aspect of urban Construction. It states the geographic location environment, brief history and urban flooding, and probes into the effective measures taken by it to prevent flood, including site selection, shape of the city wal , round shape city moat, water-draining culvert, Wengcheng system and so on. It regards Shangqiu as a successful example of urban flood control in ancient Chinese cities.
