The Courtyard Space As The Core Of Modern Residential Design

Abstract：Courtyard is the basic unit to constitute a building space. It can unify the space, strengthen the atmosphere of life, and create a pleasant micro-environment. It has been widely used in the traditional houses in China. This paper analyzes the characteristics of courtyard space and the limitations of tradition inheritance in modern settlements, using case studies to explore how the courtyard space was skillfully applied to the design of modern settlements, and puts forward some design strategies into modern settlements design.
