Thinking of the Architectural “Form” and “Concept”:A Study on the ACD in the Teaching of Architectural Design Foundation Courses

Abstract:The architectural conceptual design studio as the core studio course in architectural design foundation courses is to create architectural space in the preliminary architectural design and is the last studio course of the first year. Based on the teaching experience of Architectural Conceptual Design (ACD) in the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at Chongqing University, this article analyses the development of ACD. Through the refinement and reduction of the design process and key links, the design concept generates and the methods and steps about deducting form of building are discussed. It reveals that the relationship between "form"and "concept" is a key issue throughout the entire design process and the final design result is the integration of the two. This research on teaching provides some inspiration for the future architectural design basic courses.
