A Poetic and Artistic Conception of the Regeneration of History:The Design Process of the Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Art Museum

Abstract: aBStract In order to exhibit the fine art of Lingnan area, in 2012, the Guangzhou government selected the location in Xiguan district to construct the Cantonese Opera Art Museum. As the bidding proceeded, all sectors of society were actively involved in discussing the ground for evaluation. The different proposals were grouped according to three styles: the Lingnan vernacular typology, the modern building type, and the traditional garden type. The last one was finally selected to be implemented. This article briefly elucidated the design conception of the winning project, and its significance in the development of city historic district renewal and Lingnan region cultural heritage.
