Abstract：Through analyzing the design ideas and methods for the renovation and expansion project of Academy for Inernational Business Officials（AIBO）of Chingese Ministry of Commerce,the paper atempts to put forward a design approach similar to this project,which is,to tactically arrange new functions around the existing layout of the building to maximize its utilization,to harmonize and unify of the enw and old parts ,and to preserve the historical and culturral messages of the existing building while showccasing the features of the newly buit part.Perpetuation,integration and elevation are the main desgn purpose of this renovation and expansion project
