Introduction to the Key Laboratory of Ecology and Energy-Efficient Study of Dense Habitat (Tongji University),Ministry of Education
Abstract:The Key Laboratory of Ecology and Energy-Efficient Study of Dense Habitat (Tongji University), Ministry of Education (Referred to as the Lab hereafter) is established on the basis of existing research facilities in the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP), Tongji University. Aiming to achieve harmonious development patterns and highly-efficient use of resources, the Lab focuses on the theme of ecological and energy-efficient development of dense habitat, which covers three sub-themes, such as development prediction and dynamic monitoring technologies for high-density urban areas, Integrated simulation techniques of ecological strategies for dense building clusters, and diagnostics and ecological renovation of existing/old buildings. The strong and diverse academic background of CAUP supports multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research activities being carried out at the Lab, and enables a continuous enhancement of research capabilities in fundamental and theoretical issues related to dense urban habitat development. The work of the Lab provides technical support to decision-making that aims at developing a resource-efficient and environmental-friendly society.
