Remaking Chinese Cities in Early Twentieth Century:A Brief Literature Review
Abstract:The early twentieth century saw a major effort to remake Chinese cities.The reformists made efforts to remake the urban spatial regime(architecture and urban planning),and spruce up the city and its people(sanitation and public hygiene).As one of the most active fields of academic research,the scholarship underwent a series of changes in the past three decades.The paper takes the English literature on remaking Chinese cities in early twentieth century as a research focus.Through a brief review,the paper intends to reveal the changes in research objects,perspectives,paradigms,and methods.
