The Recreational Commercial Development of HuangPu History Village in Guangzhou
Abstract:Huangpu History Village is an urban village surrounded by tall buildings, which was once a historical important trading spot in Guangzhou.. The village avoided the fate of removal due to historical and cultural protection. It is interesting that the village is located next to the Guangzhou Trade Fair. The village has the chance for redevelopment that "thirteen-hongs" had and creates a win-win situation for cultural protection and recreational business. It should affirm the main body of protection, exploitation and management, and take advantage of its location to provide recreational ground for the Guangzhou Trade Fair. It should exert the open sprit of the ports, retain the artful environment and charm of the historic village, and integrate updated public facilities in the village. Thus the village can become an international tourism brand.
