Abstract:Objective To investigate the impact of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation(TEAS)on adverse events associated with remimazolam during painless gastroscopy, aiming to provide a safer examination method. Methods This study was a single-blind,randomized,parallel-group clinical trial.A total of 110 patients undergoing painless gastroscopy, aged 18 to 65 years, with a BMI of 18.5-30 kg/m2,were included and randomly divided to the transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation group(group T,n=56)and the control group(group C,n=54),according to random number table method. In the group T,electrical stimulation was applied to the Neiguan and Zhongwan acupoints before anesthesia, while the group C only had electrodes connected without electrical stimulation. All patients received remimazolam sedation. The observed indicators included the incidence of hiccups, loss of consciousness time, recovery time, discharge time from the recovery area, total dosage of remimazolam, body movement, and incidence of nausea and vomiting. Results Compared to the group C,the incidence of hiccups and nausea was reduced in the group T(P<0.05).There was no statisti-cally significant difference in body movement and vomiting incidence between the two groups(P>0.05).No statistically significant differences were observed in the loss of consciousness time, recovery time after the procedure, discharge time from the recovery area, and total dosage of remimazolam between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation of Neiguan and Zhongwan acupoints can effectively reduce the incidence of hiccups and nausea in patients undergoing painless gastroscopy, thereby decreasing the adverse reactions associated with the use of remimazolam for gastroscopy examinations.
