Patient safety movement:history and future directions

Abstract：Since the Institute of Medicine(IOM)in the United States unveiled the severity of medical errors in the late 1990s,patient safety has become a global focus.This article reviews the history of the patient safety movement,explores the effectiveness of patient safety models,and emphasizes the need for the future patient safety movement to continuously promote the development of a safety culture,deepen cross-disciplinary collaboration,and enhance the application of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence(AI).As a crucial platform discipline in clinical practice,anesthesiology can ensure medical quality and elevate patient safety levels by strengthening the development of a safety culture,drawing on safety paradigms from high-risk fields,and leveraging AI to empower patient management.
