Abstract:The management of difficult airway is one of the significant challenges in airway management. However, the current guidelines for difficult airway management, developed by many airway management associations, have poor compliance and operability in clinical practice, due to the complexity of the guidelines and the lack of specific decision-making guidance. To improve compliance and implemantation of these guidelines, the Vortex model was introduced. The Vortex model is a cognitive tool, proposed by Nicholas Chrimes in 2013,designed to supplement existing difficult airway management guidelines. Its purpose is to provide a concise mental model of management, and help airway management team members form a shared situational awareness through a visual vortex structure, thereby enhancing communication and decision-making capabilities during difficult airway management. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review of the concept, features and application methods of Vortex model, with the hope of providing valuable insights into the quality control of clinical airway management.
