Abstract:Vaccine adjuvants are able to enhance the body's adaptive immune response to antigens and play an important role in the vaccine development. At present, only a few of adjuvants were approved by the United States or the European Union for human use, such as aluminum adjuvant, MF59, and AS series emulsion. With the development of vaccine adjuvant research, there have been some adjuvants with clinical application prospects in China and abroad in recent years. This paper reviews the current status and mechanisms of clinically approved aluminum salt adjuvants, MF59, AS series and nano-adjuvants, in order to provide new ideas and strategies for the development of novel adjuvants for human use.
