Abstract:Immunosuppression in septic patients is an important cause of death in later period, and T lymphocyte exhaustion is the main characteristic. In this review, we systematically review the mechanisms and recent progress of T lymphocyte exhaustion induced by sepsis in view of the negative co-stimulatory molecules of cell surface (PD-1, CTLA-4, BTLA, Tim-3, Treg, LAG-3, TIGIT), Treg, neuroendocrine and other factors. Many studies have indicated that T lymphocyte exhaustion in sepsis is co-mediated by multi-pathway and multi-factors, in which the negative co-stimulatory molecules play a more significant role. At the same time, some of the negative co-stimulatory molecules revealed synergistic effect on the T lymphocyte exhaustion. So further study on co-stimulatory molecules may contribute to clarify the main mechanism of T lymphocyte exhaustion in sepsis, may provide vital reference for accurate treatment of immune regulation for sepsis.
